Professional Development

As a Professional Business Fraternity, we take our responsibility to develop our members professionally very seriously. From Resume and LinkedIn Workshops to Networking Events and Interview Panels, there are a variety of events offered each semester. We hold events with our Corporate Sponsors and other Cincinnati professionals in order to give our members the opportunity to have authentic conversations with business professionals, and get advice (as well as gain potential job opportunities).

Alpha Kappa Psi Career Fair

At the University of Cincinnati, our Eta Chapter hosts our own Career Fair prior to the campus wide Career Fair. This gives the opportunity for our Corporate Sponsors to get an exclusive look at our prestigious members and get a glance at potential employees. It also gives our members the chance to network and get face to face time with professionals in their fields of study.

Yellow Rose Banquet

At the end of the academic year, we hold our Yellow Rose Banquet to acknowledge and celebrate our achievements throughout the year. While enjoying a nice dinner, speeches, and awards, we recognize our pledge classes, student leaders, University faculty, advisors, and corporate sponsors.

Elevate

Elevate offers individuals a structured program focusing on AKPsi’s Certificate Program. The Certificate Program provides depth and breadth to new topics focused on the four professional pathways: Know Yourself, Build Your Team. Find Your Path and Build Your Skills. During the event, you’ll network with other members and business professionals.

Convention

Every two years, the Fraternity holds a National Convention which serves as the business meeting of Alpha Kappa Psi. At this convention, Chapter Congress convenes to influence positive change within the organization. Convention also serves to educate both student and alumni members on fraternity knowledge, business knowledge, and professional development through leadership events. Leaders from across the world join together for this special week. In the summer of 2024, President Cooper Schanne, Executive Vice President Nick Embrescia, Vice President of Data & Technology Ava Hansen, Vice President of Membership Engagement Nick Dan, Vice President of Pledge Education Ashley Hancock, and Member Eyler Slater travelled to Indianapolis to take part in Convention.

 Brotherhood

Throughout the academic year, the Eta Chapter makes sure to dedicate time to its brothers. A variety of events are planned by the VP of Membership Development for all to enjoy! Not only do brothers have fun, but they are able to create lasting memories with lifelong friends.

Alumni Social

Our chapter puts on at least two fun, interactive event with our wonderful alumni every year. These events have included activities such as Homecoming tailgates, sand volleyball tournaments, and bowling events. Keeping our alumni engaged through events allows them the opportunity to share their experiences with active members. These events demonstrate to the active chapter what being a successful Alpha Kappa Psi alumni looks like, inspiring current members to continue the brotherhood!

Pledge + Active Social

At the beginning of the semester, after the new pledges are welcomed into the pledge process, a social event is held. This event helps begin to create bonds between the active and the pledge chapter. The staple of this event is the pot-luck-style, which allows recipes, food, and laughs to be shared for all!

Pledge Process

Our pledge process is an 8-week crash course intended to identify prospective members as well as prepare participants for a career in the world of business. Pledges will take part in a weekly class every Wednesday night where important topics such as Resume creation, networking, and interviewing are taught and practiced. The pledge class will be divided into four Committees (Fundraising, Professionalism, Service, and Social Engagement) and will be expected to put on unique events related to their specific group. Pledges will have the opportunity to distinguish themselves with leadership roles on the pledge Executive Board. Finally, pledges will be evaluated in a mid-term and end of term examination of themselves and the knowledge they have been instructed on to determine their worthiness of membership in Alpha Kappa Psi.

While rigorous, the AKPsi pledge process is a beneficial and rewarding experience for those who undertake it. Upon completion, successful pledges will have a wealth of new knowledge and skills applicable to the business world, as well as membership in the oldest and most prestigious business fraternity, right here at the University of Cincinnati. Through interacting with your pledge class and the active chapter, participants are sure to create lifelong friendships and will be engaged in social activities to help develop a well-rounded curriculum of necessary business skills.

History

Today, there are 268 Active Chapters. Our Eta Chapter at the University of Cincinnati was the seventh chapter founded. We were founded in 1914, just 10 years after the fraternity began in New York. Women were then granted full membership into the fraternity in 1976.
